Private legal practitioner Lawyer Martin Kpebu has appealed to the people of Nkwanta in the Oti Region to embrace peace following the tragic deaths of three students from the Nkwanta Senior High School.

In an interview on TV3’s Keypoints show on Saturday June 28, 2025, Mr. Kpebu urged all parties involved in the conflict to choose dialogue over violence.

“Please, let peace prevail,” he pleaded. “It’s one nation, one people. Once there is conflict in one part of the country, it affects all of us. There is nothing that cannot be talked over.”

The students lost their lives after being hit by stray bullets during a renewed ethnic conflict in the area. The incidents occurred on Thursday and Friday.

Two of the victims, both female General Arts students in Form Two and Three, were day students on their way home after school on Thursday. The third victim, a male Business Form Three student, died on Friday after being struck by a stray bullet.

Mr. Kpebu’s appeal comes on the back of the rising tensions in Nkwanta due to the ongoing ethnic unrest. He called on all factions to put aside their differences and find peaceful solutions through discussion.

“We must choose dialogue rather than war,” he emphasized.
