The Dufia of Mafi Adidome and Head Chief of the Toh/Tovie Clan, Togbe Kwasinyi Kakaklolo Agyeman V, has strongly condemned recent reports linking the town of Adidome to alleged ritual murders.
In a statement issued Tuesday July 15, 2025, from his office, the respected traditional leader described the incidents as “barbaric, backward, anti-social, and completely against the values of a modern, progressive society.” He stressed that those allegedly involved in the crimes are not citizens of Adidome, although they live on Adidome lands. He believes the town’s status as the capital of Central Tongu may have led to it being wrongly named in reports.

Togbe Agyeman, who has a background in sociology, acknowledged that every society has its own beliefs and systems, but emphasized that “no cultural, religious, or spiritual belief justifies taking human life.”
“Adidome is a blessed town of peace, development, and vision,” he said. “Our focus is on education, economic empowerment, and social progress—not fear and superstition.” He added that while he is a Christian, his condemnation of the alleged acts is based on their criminal and immoral nature, not just religion.
Reaffirming his commitment to community safety, Togbe Agyeman urged all residents to help expose criminals, even if they are family members. He warned that the traditions of the land do not support such violent acts and that the town’s image must not be stained by these incidents.
The Chief called on the government, security agencies, and fellow traditional leaders to work more closely with traditional authorities to fight crime. He also pointed out the need to reform the Chieftaincy Act, 2008 (Act 759), particularly section 63, to give chiefs more power to handle such issues.
Togbe Agyeman welcomed President John Mahama’s proposals to reform the chieftaincy institution, saying such reforms are necessary to close legal and operational gaps.
“To the families who have lost loved ones, we send our deepest sympathies,” he said. “These acts do not represent the people of Mafi Adidome. They are isolated crimes.”
He assured all Ghanaians that Mafi Adidome remains a peaceful, law-abiding, and business-friendly community that welcomes everyone.
