The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Emelia Arthur, has left Accra for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to participate in the 6th Ordinary Session of the African Union’s Specialised Technical Committee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Water and Environment (STC–ARDWE).
The high-level meeting, which runs from October 21 to 24, 2025, brings together sector Ministers from across the African continent to review progress, shape policy, and endorse key strategic documents aimed at advancing sustainable development in agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture, rural development, water, and the environment.
Emelia Arthur’s participation highlights Ghana’s strong commitment to the Pan-African Policy Framework and Reform Strategy for Fisheries and Aquaculture, as well as its active role in the African Fisheries Reform Mechanism.
The Minister is expected to engage her counterparts on key continental initiatives, including the FishGov2 and Aquatic Biodiversity projects. Discussions will focus on aligning national fisheries policies, promoting sustainable aquaculture, and boosting Africa’s blue economy agenda.
Ghana’s involvement in the session reinforces Government’s dedication to sustainable fisheries management and aquaculture development, while enhancing regional cooperation to ensure Africa’s aquatic resources contribute meaningfully to food security, job creation, and economic growth.
