The Greater Accra Regional Police Command has asked leadership of the minority in parliament to relocate routes for picketing in its intended Occupy BoG protest, slated for the 5th of September, 2023.

A statement signed by COP Dr. Sayibu Pabi Gariba said the initial destination for picketing, which is the Bank of Ghana, is a security installation, and consequently, picketing around it may endanger public order, safety, and the running of essential services.

The statement notes the routes earmarked from Makola, through Rawlings Park and Opera Square, are always overcrowded due to human and vehicular traffic.

Such situations, the police contend, can easily compromise security, which may lead to violence and endanger public order and safety.

The statement proposed that the protest commence from the frontage of Parliament, through the Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, and terminate at Independence Square. It also assured of its continuous commitment to maintain law and order for the intended public protest within its mandate.
