Ghana’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General, Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, has revealed that after painstaking investigations conducted into the National Service Authority (NSA) ghost names scandal, the country lost over GHC 548 million in six years, which is between the periods of 2018 to 2024.
Speaking at a press briefing on Friday, June 13, 2025, Dr. Ayine gave a breakdown of the monies which he believes were siphoned by suspects in the case.
The Attorney-General hinted that investigations uncovered that top officials of the NSA run what he described as a “criminal enterprise” that siphons huge sums of public funds, leading to the country losing over GHC548 million.
“We can confirm that over GHC 548 million [was] lost due to the criminal enterprise at NSS. Ghana lost over GHC 548 million through criminal enterprise operating at the National Service Authority.”
Below is the breakdown of GHC548 million to ghost names
Between 2018/2019, the state lost an amount of GHC21,617,962,
In 2020/2021, the state lost an amount of GHC55,670,584,
In 2022/23, the state again lost GHC50,926,979 under the same breezy circumstances
And in 2023/2024, an amount of GHC32,881,157 was lost
