The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is intensifying its campaign against corruption in Ghana’s mining industry, starting with stakeholder engagement in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.

The OSP joined forces with AngloGold Ashanti (AGA), one of the country’s major mining companies, to educate staff and stakeholders on the dangers and consequences of corruption within the sector.

Speaking at the event, Director of Strategy and Research at the OSP, Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko, explained the powers of the office to investigate, prosecute, and recover stolen funds linked to corrupt practices. He noted that the OSP can take action against public officials, politicians, their families, and even private businesses.

Participants were also taught how to report corruption and were informed about protections and rewards available for whistleblowers.

The Managing Director of AngloGold Ashanti’s Obuasi Mine, Mr. Samuel Boakye Pobee, assured the public that the company takes corruption seriously and operates with a strict zero-tolerance policy.

The engagement brought together mining workers, contractors, traditional rulers, government officials, and journalists—all committing to help combat corruption in the sector.
