The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), will from Monday, August 1, commence a meter auditing exercise, dubbed “the visibility” as part of efforts to clamp down on power theft and recover losses in the system.
To this extent, a task force has been set up to arrest and prosecute persons engaged in any form of illegality.
The Managing Director of ECG, Samuel Mahama, who made this known to the media in Accra, said the task force will, among other things, check the health and readings of the meters and distribution transformers.
He said the exercise will not be a one-time occurrence but will be sustained to recover losses, and advised customers to desist from preventing the taskforce from entering their homes.
ECG on June 7, 2022, issued a one-month moratorium to power consumers to voluntarily report all faulty meters, illegal connections, and other challenges for redress.
Customers who failed to take advantage of the grace period would be disconnected.
