Residents of Santana Alhaji, a densely populated community near Chorkor in Accra, are urging the government to ensure that the contractor on the abandoned bridge and storm drain project in the area, completes his work before the rains set in.

The residents complained that the project which was abandoned about five years ago is a major concern.

When this bridge is completed, it will connect the road from Mamprobi through Kakalika to the Chemu Lagoon.

Residents say because the project has been left unattended for years, heaps of debris and silt have piled up in the drain, obstructing the free flow of water downhill.

The drain has also become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and all sorts of diseases.

The contractor for the abandoned project who was on site refused to speak to our news team.

Residents of Santana Alhaji are hoping the project will be completed before the rainy season sets in fully.
