Tamale public and market places shutdown for disinfection

A Technical Advisor for the ongoing Nationwide disinfection exercise, Desmond Appiah has advised Ghanaians to continue practicing hand washing under running water after the disinfection exercise. He explained that, though the exercise is meant to kill bacteria and influenza causing organisms including coronavirus, citizens should continue to practice regular hand washing to complement the effect of the disinfection.

One hundred and nine markets across the Northern region, public spaces and some public Institutions were sprayed as part of the disinfection. In Tamale, shops and market centres were locked and streets were empty to pave way for the exercise.

In an interview with Radio Ghana, Mr Appiah, emphasized that the ongoing exercise is not fumigation but disinfection meant to deal with influenza causing organisms including coronavirus.

The Chief Corporate Communication Officer of Zoom Lion LTD, Sophia Lissah, appealed to District Assemblies in the region, to ensure that, the markets remain closed for the next twenty-four hours after disinfection to enable the chemical have full impact

. The Northern Region is on high alert, following ten confirmed cases of coronavirus. The regional capital, Tamale, as well as the Traditional capital Yendi, are major transit points for travellers within the sub-region.
