MTN Ghana has announced a temporary disruption to its data bundle purchase services following a major technical issue encountered during the rollout of its new data offer. The network provider shared this update via SMS to its customers on Monday, July 1, 2025.

According to SMS message sent to customers, the disruption occurred as MTN was implementing a new offer that grants customers a 15% increase in data volume on all bundle purchases. The glitch affected access to both standard data bundle transactions and the promised data volume boost.

“As a result, customers are temporarily unable to purchase data bundles,” the message read. “We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may cause. Please be assured that our technical teams are working to resolve the issue” the SMS message stated.

The disruption coincided with the day all three major mobile network operators—MTN Ghana, Telecel Ghana, and AT Ghana—were expected to roll out significantly enhanced data bundles at no extra cost to consumers, in line with new directives from the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation.

In a separate message shared with users earlier, MTN had announced: “We’re excited to let you know that starting 1st July 2025, your data bundle volumes will increase by 15%. Plus, enjoy a 50% bonus when you buy your bundle via the myMTN app (4G only). And don’t forget, MTN data bundles never expire.” However, this offer could not materialise due to the technical glitch.

The company has however directed users to its website for more information and assured customers of efforts to restore full service as soon as possible.
