Nigerian Actress, Kate Henshaw shared a powerful message at the Women of Valour event in London, urging women to embrace their true selves and choose courage over fear.
She emphasized the importance of self-reflection, encouraging women to look in the mirror and speak to themselves before the world defines who they are. She stressed that it’s crucial to tell oneself the truth before others come to impose their own narratives.
“When you wake up tomorrow, before the world tells you who you are, look in the mirror, speak to yourself. Some of us run away from ourselves, tell yourself the truth before someone will come and lie on your head. Before the world tells you who to be, ask yourself, what would I do today if I choose courage over fear”?
The actress concluded with a quote by Marianne Williamson, saying, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberated others”.
The event, themed “The Pursuit of Fearlessness,” featured prominent women from various industries, including Nana Ama McBrown, Lesley Batchelor, and Debora Shanley.
The Women of Valour initiative, founded by Nana Aba Anamoah, aims to recognize and amplify women’s stories of courage and resilience.
