The Secretary General of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area, AfCFTA, Mr. Wamkele Mene said developing and utilizing Africa’s own energy resources is critical for the continent’s long term energy security and its path to economic prosperity.
Speaking at the 2025 Africa Oil Week in Accra, Mr. Wamkele emphasized the need for investment in the Green Industrialization Initiative and the role of oil and gas in the continent’s economy, emphasizing responsible resource management for long term development.

He urged investors to support Africa’s Green Industrialization Initiative, which aligns with the AfCFTA’s goal of creating a single African market for goods and services.
“Our continent has 60 percent of the world’s best solar potential alongside enormous wind, geothermal, hydropower and solar renewable resources. We have everything that requires to build energy security, and a long term sustainability. What we do not have is sustainability of investments in energy”, he added.
The Operations and Maintenance Superintendent West at WAPCo Benoni Ayeh said, “we all know that gas is a transition fuel we need to take advantage of, in terms of gas pipeline availability, we’re looking about 99 percent. It’s something that we all need to support because it’s a catalyst for future expansion.”

The roadshow brought together a unique global network of upstream stakeholders and energy leaders to tackle the evolving energy challenges and accelerate Africa’s energy future.
Discussions covered exploration and production potential, infrastructure, technology, decarbonization, and the role of natural gas.
The event provided a crucial platform for governments, national oil companies, NOCs, international oil companies, IOCs, financiers, and service providers to collaborate and facilitate deals that will ensure the growth of Africa energy.
