The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has dismissed claims that he approved a US$5.2 million contract to renovate Ghana’s embassy in Benin.
In a Facebook post on Monday, September 8, 2025, the minister described the allegation as “false” and urged the public to treat it with “utter contempt.”
“For the record, I have not awarded any embassy renovation contract anywhere in the world,” Mr. Ablakwa stressed.
He explained that since assuming office as Foreign Minister, he has not approved any contract for embassy renovation or construction. Instead, he said, he saved public funds by canceling a US$3.5 million “midnight” single-source contract for the renovation of Ghana’s embassy in Abidjan, which had been awarded on November 7, 2024.
“I shall never betray the trust of the Ghanaian people as we work tirelessly, and with integrity, to achieve President Mahama’s Reset Agenda,” Mr. Ablakwa assured.
