More than two hundred land lords at Aboabo Kabote in the Yilo Krobo Municipality in the Eastern region have kicked against the attempt by a quarry Company, Franklore Mining Company to evacuate them from their current residence without paying the appropriate compensation.
Speaking to GBC reporter after an engagement section with the Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, Minerals Commission and Ecological Survey, the Leader of the Community, William Owusu Darko, said, Franklore Mining Company has refused to honour their end of the bargain adding that the Company agreed to compensate all the affected residents who fall within the catchment area where the querying will take place before the Company begin its work.
He further stated that until the affected residents are relocated as agreed by the Company they will not accept the evacuation process.
A Quantity Surveyor, Prosper Avickson, who is also a resident at Aboabo charged the EPA to come out with well-structured activities for the company which will be more environmental friendly as stated by the company.
An Assistant Programme Officer at the Eastern Regional Office of the EPA, Isaac Essilfie, asked the community to act within the confines of the law and allow his outfit to engage them accordingly.
He added that the EPA will act in the interest of the community and therefore those who fall within the buffer zone will be compensated appropriately.
He further charged the community to refrain from any activity that will impede the progress of the engagement.
