Ghana is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic figures, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, who passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 11, 2025.

The announcement was made in a statement jointly released by the Safo family and the Kristo Asafo Church. It described him as a “beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist.”

Widely regarded as a trailblazer, Apostle Safo was celebrated not only for his spiritual leadership but also for his pioneering role in Ghana’s industrial and technological advancement through the Kantanka brand. His innovations in automobile manufacturing, engineering, and agriculture earned him the reputation as the “Star of Africa.”

The statement, signed by his daughter and former Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, highlighted his lasting impact:

“Apostle Safo was a true genius, a beacon of hope for many, and a father to the fatherless.”

Beyond industry, Apostle Safo’s philanthropy touched countless lives, particularly in education, health, and youth empowerment. His vision for self-reliance and indigenous innovation inspired generations of Ghanaians to believe in the potential of local talent.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course. The family has also appealed to the public to respect their privacy during this period of mourning.

Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka leaves behind a remarkable legacy of faith, resilience, technology, and community service, cementing his place as one of Ghana’s most influential leaders of the 20th and 21st centuries.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 

THE PASSING OF APOSTLE KWADWO SAFO 

With profound sorrow and deepest grief, the Safo Family and the Kristo Asafo Church announce the peaceful passing of Ghana’s beloved man of God, the greatest technological icon, philanthropist, agriculturalist, and industrialist popularly referred to as “Kantanka, the African Star”.

Our dearest Father passed away peacefully on Thursday, 11th September 2025. 

Romans 14:8 states; “For if we live, we live to the Lord and if we die, we die to the Lord”. 

Apostle Safo was a true genius, the beacon of hope for many, a father to the fatherless. Ghana has indeed lost a galant son and a true legend. 

His unique persona was shaped by his life struggles, dreams, resilience, courage, determination and dedication to His calling and conviction. 

During this time of grief, we humbly request that the general public respects the privacy of the family and loved ones.

The burial and funeral arrangements shall be duly communicated in the coming days

  2. May his Soul rest in perfect peace but may his spirit live on and continue to inspire current and unborn generations to continue his good works. It is a shame that it took too long for his industrious moves to get the deserved support from the Ghanaian citizens. But no matter what it is, he will forever remain a hero and his name will never die. Rest well, Papa but I am sure that you will continue to shine as African Star!!

  3. Heartbreaking…! Apostle Dr Kwadwo Safo Kantanka was one of my iconic Role Models – an Inspiration in many ways including Pioneering, Professional and the Holy Spiritual. I intended to pay a Courtesy Call on Apostle in my next visit to Gh. May his signature footprints live on forever, and continue to positively High-Impact countless. May his Star now shine from above upon Gh and Continental Africa, ICJN, Amen!
