The Ga West Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) last Sunday created the Awoshie District to strengthen and advance the mission and work of the church across its congregations. Carved out of the Kwashieman District, Awoshie District becomes the 22nd district to be erected since the creation of the Ga West Presbytery.

The district, which has the Zion Congregation, Awoshie, as its head station, will have six other congregations under its supervision.

The ceremony, which brought together both past and present ministers of the church and representatives from sister congregations and districts, also saw the induction of the first District Minister, Rev. Beatrice Ansah Kwakye, into office.

In a sermon on the theme, “The Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world,” the Chairperson of the Ga West Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Enoch Adjei Pobee, called on Christians to model their daily lives after Christ and become agents of moral transformation in society.

He charged church members to show the light of God to the entire world, noting that Christian faith must go beyond words and be reflected in everyday conduct. According to him, despite human shortcomings, believers must associate themselves with Jesus and allow Him to be their light in order to prosper.

Rev. Pobee emphasised that a Christ-like life should be evident in homes, workplaces, and public spaces. He specifically admonished Christians to reject corruption, unethical practices, and immoral behaviour, insisting that genuine faith must produce visible integrity.

He noted that the church has a responsibility to influence society positively, adding that when believers live according to Christ’s teachings, they contribute to national development and social justice.

For her part, the first District Minister, Rev. Ansah Kwakye, said the creation of the Awoshie District was “a clear sign of God’s guidance and the growth of His Church.”

She thanked the leadership of the Ga West Presbytery for the confidence reposed in her, saying she accepted the appointment “with humility and trust in God’s strength, not my own.”

Rev. Kwakye acknowledged the support of the Kwashieman District Council and the District Minister, describing their role as “crucial to the successful establishment of the district.”

She said the new district presented fresh opportunities for mission and service, urging presbyters, group leaders, and members to “work together to ensure progress and development.”

She reaffirmed her commitment to servant leadership guided by God’s Word and appealed for “the prayers and cooperation of the entire membership as we begin this work together.”

Rev. Ansah Kwakye was presented with a Bible, church constitution, and manual of order.

The congregations and preaching points under the new Awoshie District are: Zion Congregation, Awoshie; Grace Congregation, A-Lang; Mt. Sinai Congregation, Anyaa; Royal Priesthood, North Sowutuom; Victory Congregation, Omanjor; and Anyaa Last Stop Preaching Post.
