The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, has announced plans to expand educational infrastructure across the constituency in response to rapid population growth.
Uncontrolled population increase has placed significant pressure on existing basic and secondary school facilities, resulting in overcrowded classrooms and gaps in access to quality education.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, 23 December 2025, after donating 100 bags of cement to the Odupongkpehe Traditional Council, the Awutu Senya East MP said several new basic schools are currently under construction, while others are being renovated and expanded.
She disclosed plans to establish a new senior high school to complement Odupong Senior High School, where additional facilities are also being provided to cater to rising enrolment.
Ms Okunnor further revealed that plans are underway to consider the establishment of a nursing training college to broaden educational opportunities within the constituency.
“We are working around the clock to build more schools and renovate existing ones, including facilities in Zongo, Newtown and other areas. Many school projects are ongoing, and when schools resume next year, pupils will see brand-new facilities and be motivated to return to the classroom,” she said.
The lawmaker added that the proposed senior high school is expected to be located at Kasoa, near the Prisons Camp area, subject to the necessary approvals.
