The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has denied reports circulating on social media alleging that the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, was attacked during a visit to Bawku in the Upper East Region.
In a statement released on Friday, April 25, GAF described the claims made in two viral videos as false and urged the public to disregard them. According to the military, Major General Gbetanu’s operational visit to Bawku on Wednesday, April 23, was successful, with no incidents reported.
GAF said investigations are underway to trace the individuals behind the videos, who could face legal action.
The statement also called on bloggers, content creators, and media outlets to exercise caution in their reporting on military operations in Bawku, warning that misinformation could escalate tensions in the already volatile area.
“GAF urges all stakeholders to put their hands on deck to help restore normalcy to Bawku and its environs,” the release concluded.
