Ghana’s Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has ordered thorough investigations into the latest attacks in Bawku, which occurred on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The Minister announced the directive in a Facebook post on Monday, July 14, 2025, while calling for calm and restraint in Bawku as investigations continue.

“We are, once again, urging restraint and calm in Bawku regarding the latest developments as of yesterday.

I have directed thorough investigations into the recent matter and promised to take swift action based on recommendations,” parts of his read.

Dr. Omane Boamah’s appeal for calm and restraint in the Bawku enclave follows the latest reports of violence in Bawku township, which has reportedly led to an injury to military personnel.

According to reports on Sunday, July 13, 2025, some unknown youth were alleged to have unleashed a gun attack on the vehicle escorted by soldiers.

The military personnel, in a way of retaliation, also destroyed the statue of the Zugran of the Kusaug Traditional Area, Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, and brutalised some civilians.
