The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, has praised the leadership of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, describing it as a vital source of stability, guidance, and wisdom for Ghana’s national development.
Dr. Asiama made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the Asantehene to the BoG headquarters at Bank Square in Accra on Wednesday, January 7. While largely ceremonial, the visit underscored the ongoing dialogue and mutual respect between traditional leadership and the country’s economic managers, particularly at a time when Ghana continues to make strides toward economic stability.
Addressing the Asantehene, the BoG Governor highlighted the monarch’s quiet yet steady leadership style, emphasizing that his approach has been deeply anchored in wisdom and moral clarity.
“In moments of national tension, you have reminded us that true authority is not exercised through noise or spectacle, but through balance, restraint, and moral clarity,” Dr. Asiama said.
He further noted that the Asantehene’s leadership extends beyond matters of chieftaincy and social cohesion, influencing broader national conversations on development, discipline, and progress.
“That instinct for stability has made your voice relevant, not only in matters of traditional leadership but also in shaping the broader national dialogue on development, discipline, and progress,” Dr. Asiama added.
The visit brought together top officials from the Bank of Ghana and representatives of the Ashanti traditional council, reflecting the importance of collaborative engagement between state institutions and traditional authorities in advancing Ghana’s economic and social agenda.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, widely respected for his guidance on governance, morality, and national cohesion, thanked the BoG Governor for his remarks. He reiterated his commitment to supporting initiatives that foster national stability and economic development.
