Compassion International is a Christian non-governmental organization (NGO) that is making a big impact in the lives of children across Ghana and many other parts of the world.
By working through local churches, the organization provides children living in poverty with the support they need to grow into responsible and confident adults.
One such example is the Evangel Child Development Center (ECDC) located in Adabraka, Accra.
This center, which started in 2007 under the Evangel Assemblies of God Church, has helped shape the lives of many young people in the community.

The project was first led by Mr. Jackson Fiifi Mensah and his hardworking deputies, who guided children through Compassion’s well-structured curriculum.
The ECDC follows a curriculum that focuses on four key areas: spiritual, physical, cognitive, and socio-emotional development.
Spiritual Growth
Children are taught about the Bible and the love of Jesus Christ through regular Bible studies, worship sessions, and prayer activities. This helps them grow in faith and build strong Christian values from a young age.
Physical Well-being
The center encourages sports and recreation to keep children physically healthy. Activities such as soccer, volleyball, and other fun games are organized to help children stay active and strong.
During the early days of the center, the children actively participated in various sporting events, not just for fun, but also as a way to build discipline, teamwork, and physical fitness.
Through these events, ECDC became known for its sporting excellence, winning several trophies and medals in inter-center competitions. These victories were a source of pride for us and helped boost our confidence.
Educational Support

Compassion supports the children’s education by helping with school fees, books, and even extra tutoring. Some children also get vocational training and special education support, giving them the tools they need to succeed in life.
Emotional and Social Skills
The program helps children learn how to interact with others, manage their emotions, and develop leadership skills. At ECDC, for example, the first batch of children went through leadership training and mentorship that helped shape them into confident, respectful, and well-mannered young men.
From early childhood to teenage years, Compassion’s curriculum is designed to meet the needs of each stage of a child’s development.
At ECDC Adabraka, the results are clear, children not only receive help with their daily needs but are also prepared to face the future with courage and purpose.
Compassion International continues to work in many parts of Ghana through its partner churches, touching thousands of lives with a message of hope and practical support. For children who once had little to dream about, Compassion is opening doors to a brighter tomorrow.
