Nine Democracy Hub protestors including Ama Governor granted bail

First batch of nine alleged Democracy Hub protestors have been granted bail by the High Court in Accra.

They were admitted to bail in the sum of 70 thousand cedis with two sureties who are to deposit their Ghana Card and also provide their digital address at the Court Registry.

The alleged protestors have been ordered to report once a week to the police as part of their bail condition. The accused persons admitted to bail are Ama Governor, Emmanuel Gyan, Emmanuel Kwabena Addo, Ziblim Yakubu, Oheneba Prempeh, Philip Owusu Kobina, Akisibik Desmond Von Coffie and Sadik Yakubu.

The Judge, Justice Comfort Tasiame held that she found merit in the bail application filed by Lawyers for the alleged protestors and accordingly granted it.

They are part of more than 50 persons currently before the Circuit Court following their arrests during a protest organised by Democracy Hub at the 37 Roundabout in Accra over illegal small-scale mining popularly referred to as galamsey and economic mismanagement.

They have been charged with Conspiracy to commit crime, Unlawful assembly, causing Unlawful Damage, Offensive conduct and breach of public peace and assault on public officers.
