The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Mr. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has assured Ghanaians that he will ensure accountability and transparency in the operations of the programme.
He has therefore warned against the misuse of road equipment supplied under the programme, saying that any district coordinator found misusing the equipment for unlawful or unauthorised activities will be severely sanctioned. Nii Lante Vanderpuye was speaking at a two-day orientation and training at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region for the district coordinators of the programme in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.
The District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) was officially launched in July 2024. The nationwide initiative aims to enhance road infrastructure and improve accessibility across all 275 constituencies. It was, however, observed that personnel handling the equipment were not sufficiently trained, which affected the efficient and effective running of the machines. To address these inefficiencies, newly recruited personnel are undergoing comprehensive training in handling the road equipment. The orientation and training held at Ejisu in the Ashanti Region was attended by district coordinators of the programme in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions. It was held under the theme, “Strengthening DRIP for Sustainable Road Maintenance and National Development.” The National Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye, assured Ghanaians that under his watch, personnel will exhibit greater care and professionalism in managing the machinery entrusted to them.
“Let me state that under my watch I will not tolerate the misuse of the road equipment for any unlawful or unauthorized activity. If any district coordinator is caught using the equipment for unauthorized activities, we shall deal with you in accordance with the law,” he stressed.
With this latest training, government hopes to reinforce discipline, transparency, and sustainable management of the machines to maximize their impact on Ghana’s road network.
