The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), has rescued a truck driver after a road crash involving a maize-laden DAF truck on the Sawla–Wa highway in northern Ghana.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, January 2, 2026, near the Sawla Weighing Bridge. Fire officers from the Sawla–Tuna–Kalba District Command, supported by a rescue team from the Savannah Regional Headquarters, responded to the scene.

The truck, with registration number AS 1852-T, was travelling from Wa to Bole when it veered off the road, hit a tree and overturned into nearby bushland. The driver was trapped inside the damaged vehicle but was rescued alive and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Six other male occupants had earlier been rescued by members of the public and transported to the Sawla District Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the authorities.
