The Greater Accra Regional Peace Council has urged residents and religious groups to support this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making, calling for peace, harmony, and respect for tradition during the period leading up to the Homowo Festival.
In a statement signed by Rt. Rev. Samuel Kofi Osabutey, Regional Chairman of the Peace Council, the body threw its support behind the Ga Traditional Council’s annual directive, which prohibits loud music, drumming, and other noise-making activities.
The ban takes effect from Monday, 12 May 2025, to Thursday, 12 June 2025, and covers the entire Ga State. Prohibited activities include the use of drums, tambourines, and even hand clapping in public gatherings.
The Peace Council emphasised the importance of maintaining tranquillity during the month-long observance and encouraged residents to continue their daily activities without violating the regulations.
It also called on religious organisations and other stakeholders to fully comply with the guidelines and warned that enforcement may include fines or other penalties for breaches.
“We appeal to all stakeholders, particularly religious organisations, to cooperate and follow established guidelines to maintain peace in the region,” the statement read.
The Council concluded by urging the public to offer prayers for the Ga-Dangme people as they prepare for the Homowo Festival.
