Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, says MultiChoice Africa has gone beyond the government’s expectations in its revised value offering to Ghanaian DStv subscribers.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Monday, the Minister revealed that following extensive negotiations, MultiChoice has committed to giving subscribers between 33% and 50% more value on their existing packages — higher than the 30% target initially proposed by the government.
“MultiChoice has offered value over and above what we expected of them. I went into this with a request for 30 percent. With what we have discussed here, the lowest is 33 percent, the highest is 50 percent,” Sam George stated.
He commended the operator for what he described as a gesture of goodwill toward subscribers.
According to him, the enhanced value proposition resulted from the work of a stakeholder committee set up earlier this month to review DStv pricing and accessibility in Ghana.
Sam George explained that the new arrangement “addresses government’s concerns, reduces pressure on Ghanaian households, and ensures the sustainability of the DStv service in Ghana.”
In addition to the improved bouquet value, MultiChoice will sell its Zapper decoder and dish kit at GHS555, a 50% discount from the current price.
“New customers will be able to get the Zapper and dish kit at half the price. So this is yet another 50 percent discount for subscribers,” the Minister said.
He stressed the government’s commitment to consumer welfare and transparency in the digital service space, adding:
“The government of His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama is on your side, and MultiChoice is a responsible business operating in Ghana.”
