The Northern Motor Dealers Association, NDA, in collaboration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, DVLA has launched a campaign, aimed at sensitizing the public particularly road users to the need to be cautious on the road especially during this yuletide.

The campaign dubbed “Arrive Home safely” also underscored the urgent need for motor bike users to develop the habit of using crush helmet as well as registered motorbikes.
Speaking at the launch in Tamale, Technical Engineer at DVLA, lng. John Cudjoe Alex, encouraged motorists to ensure safety at all times by wearing crash helmets to stay alive.

The launch saw participants marching through some principal streets of Tamale with stickers and banners on road safety tips. They educated motorists on the dangers of riding without helmets. Some lucky participants were given free crush helmets and jackets.

The float ended at the Tamale Jubilee Park where staff of DVLA and lng. John Cudjoe Alex, used the occasion to advise motorbike riders to get their bikes registered to avoid any confrontation with Officers.

”DVLA’s mission is to see motorists stay alive”.

The Station Officer at the Motor Traffic and Transport Department, MTTD, Chief Inspector Mary Sebastian, on behalf of the Regional Police Commander commended the Association for the campaign.

“About 90 % of road crashes in the region is motorbike related”. Although it is the responsibility of the department to protect lives and property, the onus lies on people to take their own safety seriously.

Northern Regional Secretary of the Association, Hussein Mubarak, said the priority of the Association is not only to make money but to see their customers stay alive while using their bikes.
