A Ghanaian philanthropist, Hannah Owusu Smith, who is based in the United States has donated assorted items worth over thirty thousand Ghana cedis and an undisclosed amount to some selected widows in the New Juaben North and South Municipalities of the Eastern.

The items include bags of rice, assorted drinks, boxes of canned fish, cooking oil, among others. Presenting the items, a Representative of the Philanthropist, Nana Asare Mireku said Madam Smith started the project three years ago to help the vulnerable in society.

He added that the idea came about when she lost her father about ten years ago, which made her start the project with some widows at Suhum. He added that with the help of her friends in the States, Mrs. Smith has included Koforidua and its adjoining communities.

She further stated that other districts will be added to the project next year to put a smile on the faces of the less privileged in society.

One of the widows, Mercy Twumasi who spoke on behalf of the widows thanked the Philanthropist for the gesture and appealed to other philanthropists to take a cue from the gesture and come to their aid since they are struggling to survive after the demise of their husbands.
