A self-styled international radio marriage counsellor, Rev Dr Ebenezer Conduah, has been arrested and remanded over alleged offences involving child sexual abuse material, the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has said.
In a Facebook post, Mr. George said the suspect was arrested in the early hours of March 6, by the Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service.
According to the minister, the arrest took place as the country prepared to mark its 69th Independence Day celebrations.
Mr George said the suspect is being investigated for offences relating to child sexual abuse material in violation of sections 62 and 63 of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038).
He said the alleged abuse involved a 17-year-old minor and is believed to have continued for about four years.
The minister added that investigators from the Cyber Security Authority had uncovered recordings and online postings allegedly made by the accused on international pornographic websites.
Mr Conduah has been put before a court and remanded for three weeks to allow investigators to complete their work.
“I congratulate our Cyber Security team and reiterate that if you break our cyber laws, we will find you and hold you accountable, no matter who you are,” Mr George said.
