A Member of Parliament for Agona West, Ernestina Ofori Dangbey, has filed a defamation suit at the High Court in Accra against broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere over comments allegedly made on television.
According to a writ of summons issued on April 13, 2026, the plaintiff is seeking legal redress over statements she describes as defamatory and damaging to her reputation. The court document directs the defendant to enter an appearance within eight days after being served, failing which judgment may be entered in his absence.
The suit stems from remarks allegedly broadcast on March 24, 2026, in which the defendant is said to have accused the MP of improperly influencing the removal of a headmistress at Swedru Secondary School. The statements further portrayed her as abusing her authority and described her as “dangerous to democracy.”
The writ includes detailed particulars of defamation, citing claims that the MP pressured the Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education to dismiss the headmistress. Additional allegations referenced in the broadcast include accusations of interference in student admissions, transportation arrangements for voter registration, and attempts to influence school activities for political purposes.
The plaintiff contends that the statements are false and have caused significant reputational harm.
As part of the reliefs sought, the MP is requesting a court order compelling the defendant to issue an unconditional retraction, publish an unqualified apology, and remove all related content from his media and social media platforms. She is also seeking that the apology be prominently displayed for a period of one month.
Additionally, the suit asks the court to impose a perpetual injunction restraining the defendant from making similar statements in the future, as well as payment of legal costs and any further orders the court may deem appropriate.
The case is expected to proceed before the High Court in Accra.
