Erratic rainfall threatens Ghana’s food security

The production of millet, maize, groundnut and other crops may be in short supply for the rest of the year and beyond as a result of erratic rainfall in the country.

Consequently, the Peasant Farmers Association has called on government to focus on the One Village One Dam Initiative and construct more irrigation dams for farmers.

A spokesperson for the Association, Ahmed Bogobiri told GBC NEWS that about 80 percent of farmers in the North were unable to plant this year due to the unreliable rainfall pattern, which he says threatens the country’s food security.
