Firefighters in the Western North Region have contained a blaze that swept through part of the Sefwi Juaboso Market in the early hours of Tuesday.
The Ghana National Fire Service said the fire broke out near the Frankrab Cold Store shortly after 3:00 a.m., destroying four wooden shops and a metal container used as a store.
Fire crews from the Sefwi Juaboso Station arrived within minutes but had to rely on portable extinguishers after their fire engine developed a fault. With help from members of the public, they brought the fire under control by 4:33 a.m. and fully extinguished it shortly after 5:00 a.m.
No injuries were reported.
Preliminary investigations point to an electrical fault as the cause of the fire. The District Fire Officer, DO II Emmanuel Miah, was at the scene to supervise operations.
