At least four people have been confirmed dead and more than 3,000 displaced following the heavy downpour that struck parts of Accra on Sunday, May 18, 2025, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has revealed.

Deputy Director-General for Protocol and Relief at NADMO, Mr. Samuel Aboagye, confirmed the casualties during an interview on 3FM’s Sunrise morning show.

“Over 3,000 residents have been displaced, with four deaths recorded so far — one from Abokobi and three from Adenta — following Sunday’s downpour,” Mr. Aboagye stated.

The rain, which began around 3:00 p.m., lasted nearly three hours and caused widespread flooding across the capital, disrupting traffic and daily life. The timing, coinciding with peak commuting hours, worsened the situation for many residents and motorists.

Affected areas include Weija, Kaneshie, Adabraka, Adentan-Dodowa, Oyarifa, and parts of Tema. Roads were submerged, vehicles were stranded, and some homes were damaged or flooded.

Mr. Aboagye assured that NADMO teams remain on the ground, assessing the situation and registering affected individuals for relief support.

“Our operation teams are still on the ground assessing and registering individuals affected by the flood. We will ensure affected persons are compensated accordingly.” Mr Aboagye assured

He also urged Ghanaians to stay alert during the rainy season and avoid flood-prone areas to ensure their safety.

“Let me use this medium to urge Ghanaians to be vigilant and proactive in disaster preparedness and response, particularly during this rainy season,” he stressed.
