Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has officially welcomed the new United Nations Resident Coordinator, His Excellency Zia Choudhury, as the country deepens its commitment to multilateral cooperation and UN-led development efforts.
The Minister received the open letters of the new Resident Coordinator in Accra, expressing Ghana’s delight at his appointment and reaffirming the country’s longstanding support for the UN system.
“As the United Nations turns 80, Ghana reaffirms its steadfast belief in the UN Charter and renews our unwavering commitment to multilateralism. We shall continue to consolidate our enviable role as one of the top five contributors of troops to UN peacekeeping operations across conflict zones globally.” Mr Ablakwa said.

Mr. Ablakwa further underscored Ghana’s continued advocacy for reforms within the United Nations, particularly in alignment with the African Union’s Ezulwini Consensus, which calls for a more representative and equitable global governance structure. He also emphasized Ghana’s readiness to collaborate with the UN across all sectors, in pursuit of President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of resetting the country’s development agenda and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Congratulating Mr. Choudhury, the Minister described him as a seasoned development expert whose passion and track record inspire confidence and optimism for Ghana-UN cooperation moving forward.
Mr. Choudhury brings to the role extensive experience in development, humanitarian affairs, and leadership within the UN system, and is expected to play a key role in coordinating the UN’s support to Ghana’s national priorities.
