Four arrested for killing 70 year-old woman over witchcraft accusation

Four persons have been arrested for their involvement in the killing of a 70 year old woman, Noab Bilatukin at Sagbani near Bunkpurugu-Yunyoo District of the North East Region.  They were arrested  at their various hideouts in villages around Bunkpurugu.

In a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the North East Regional Police Command,  DSP Robert Anabiik Anmain, on Thursday,  10th July, 2025, the four suspects, namely, Suuk Jakwa, 67, Banyiwoo Ntookwib, 32, Moapya Kwayaja, 30, Amos Nlaji, 29 and others currently at large, accused the deceased of being a witch and lynched her.

The suspects later fled the village after their criminal act. It said four days after the act, the Regional Police command, based on intelligence, arrested the suspects.  They  are currently being interrogated and would be put before court after investigation.

The police is urging the public, particularly residents of the North East Region, to refrain from accusing individuals, especially the elderly, of witchcraft and to avoid subjecting them to violent attacks.

It emphasized that anyone involved in such acts would face legal consequences upon arrest.
