The Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) has pledged its full support for the implementation of the 40-Year Ghana Infrastructure Plan (GIP), unveiled by the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) in Accra.

The plan, themed “The GIP is the Foundation of Ghana’s Long-term National Development,” serves as a comprehensive blueprint to guide Ghana’s infrastructure priorities from 2025 to 2065. It outlines a coordinated framework for investment, policy alignment, and sustainable infrastructure delivery across the energy, transport, housing, water, and industrial development sectors.

The Chief Executive Officer of the GFZA, Dr. Mary Awusi, who participated in the launch, said the Authority recognizes the GIP as a transformative tool that will strengthen Ghana’s industrial base, attract global investors, and enhance the competitiveness of free zones nationwide.

“The Ghana Infrastructure Plan provides a clear 40-year vision for how we build the physical and industrial backbone of our nation. It directly supports our mission to develop world-class export processing zones and position Ghana as an industrial hub in West Africa,” Dr. Awusi stated.

She emphasized that the GFZA will work closely with the NDPC and other agencies to align free zone infrastructure, including industrial roads, power supply, water systems, and logistics corridors, with the GIP’s national priorities.

President John Dramani Mahama, who officially launched the plan, underscored the importance of discipline and continuity in infrastructure governance, insisting that every cedi invested must align with the GIP’s framework to ensure value for money and equitable regional development.

“Infrastructure must be seen as a shared national legacy — not as political trophies. This 40-year plan provides a long-term direction that future governments must uphold,” the President noted.

Acting Director-General of the NDPC, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, said the Commission will continue to engage ministries, agencies, and the private sector to ensure that implementation of the plan remains consistent with Ghana’s Vision 2057 goal of achieving a highly developed, inclusive, and resilient economy.

Dr. Awusi was joined by Dr. Patience Agbleze Acorlor, Director of Corporate Affairs and Public Relations at the GFZA, who reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to infrastructure-driven industrial growth, highlighting the role of public-private partnerships (PPPs) in sustaining investment over the next four decades.

The GIP represents Ghana’s most comprehensive infrastructure roadmap to date — one designed to connect communities, boost trade, and expand industrial capacity through coordinated planning and efficient resource use over a 40-year horizon.
