The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has appealed to the media to exercise caution and responsibility in their coverage of the recent Air Force Z-9 helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which killed all eight people on board.
In a statement issued by its Department of Public Relations, GAF said it had observed “many speculative and unsubstantiated commentaries” about the incident. It urged media practitioners, panellists, social commentators, bloggers, and content creators to avoid publishing unverified information that could cause further distress to the bereaved families.
“For the sake of the bereaved families and loved ones, we urge all to accord respect to the memories of the fallen heroes and help mitigate the sorrows of their families,” the statement read.
GAF assured the public that thorough investigations, including collaboration with international agencies, were underway to determine the cause of the crash. It cautioned that any premature conclusions based on opinions or perceptions could be misleading.
The Armed Forces also expressed gratitude to the government, institutions, and individuals who have shown support since the tragedy, and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“May the souls of our patriots continue to rest in peace,” the statement added.
