Regarding the recent water crisis faced by many towns in Ghana due to illegal mining, popularly known as ‘Galamsey,’ Timothy Ataboadey Awontiirim, former Member of Parliament for Builsa North for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 4, 2024, said that the fight against ‘Galamsey’ is not about who polluted more.
According to him, the issue of Galamsey—how it started, who started it, and where it is leading—has escalated because everyone is playing the blame game, leaving innocent people to bear the consequences of the activity.
He continued to urge the government to take serious action to curb the Galamsey menace, as people’s homes are collapsing due to mining activities close to residential areas.
He called on Parliament to do more since the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has failed miserably in combating this issue.
Timothy Awontiirim further stated that a government is changed when it hasn’t worked satisfactorily; hence, the opposition party, NDC, should be voted into power because of its proposal for better solutions.
