The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan, has urged the parliamentary select committee to support GBC in benefiting financially from its assets used in the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) plan and the upcoming 5G rollout.

Speaking during the committee’s visit to GBC on Friday, September 12, 2025, Professor Alhassan said: “The national DTT plan is sitting on the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation assets, and as landlords, we should be benefiting from that.”
He explained that GBC owns the masts on which the national DTT is rolled out for all TV channels to operate, yet the corporation earns nothing from it. “When I came into office and I looked at the DTT, my assessment is that we could have made between 5 to 7 million US dollars annually for charges of using our masts. We are getting zero,” he said.

Professor Alhassan stressed that unlike the DTT, the 5G rollout is a private sector initiative, and GBC expects to be compensated at market rates for the use of its assets. “We are ready to sit as landlords and demand that even if you ask to use the towers for that rollout, we should get a decent rent,” he remarked.
He appealed to Parliament to intervene, saying fair compensation would enhance GBC’s financial stability. He also invited the committee to tour GBC’s facilities, highlighting three main operational areas, beginning with radio. “We would be happy to take you around our facilities here. As we go around, we will explain what we are doing,” he said.
