Ghana and Egypt have announced a new strategic partnership to promote sustainable and inclusive mining across Africa. The agreement was reached during bilateral talks between Ghana’s Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, and Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Eng. Karim Badawi, on the sidelines of the Africa Down Under (ADU) 2025 Conference in Perth, Australia.
The two countries pledged to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices in mineral resource management, signaling a broader shift towards pan-African collaboration in the sector.
Mr. Buah, who used Ghana’s platform at the conference to call for a paradigm shift in African mining, stressed the importance of value addition, community empowerment, and sustainability. “We are here not merely to discuss rocks and minerals, but to build the future; a future of shared prosperity, sustainable development, and mutual growth,” he declared.
Drawing on the historic ties between Ghana and Egypt, Mr. Buah described the talks as more than a ministerial meeting. “This is a reunion of brothers and a reaffirmation of the Pan-African spirit. Our goal is to drive a unified African voice and position in the global mining industry, ensuring our resources benefit our people first,” he said.
For his part, Eng. Badawi highlighted Egypt’s vast potential in tantalite, phosphate, and gold, presenting the North African nation as an emerging hub for mining investment. He welcomed Ghana’s commitment to collaboration and pledged to deepen Egypt’s engagement in Ghana’s mining sector. “I am deeply appreciative of Minister Buah’s warmth and vision,” he remarked. “I return to Egypt not only with a stronger relationship but also as an advocate for increased Egyptian investment and collaborative opportunities in Ghana’s thriving mining sector.”
Mr. Buah extended a formal invitation to his Egyptian counterpart to visit Ghana for further discussions—an invitation Eng. Badawi accepted.
The Ghana–Egypt alliance is expected to create a powerful corridor linking North and West Africa’s mining markets, offering international investors a compelling proposition: partnering with countries not only rich in resources but also committed to collaboration, sustainability, and shared growth.
Observers at ADU 2025 said the partnership underscores a growing recognition that Africa’s mining future lies in cooperation rather than competition, with Ghana and Egypt setting the pace.
