Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, has responded to allegations that he abrogated contracts with security companies providing services to the company. Mutawakilu has denied the claims, stating that those making the allegations should provide evidence to support them.

“When I saw the post, I thought the person would have provided evidence,” he said.

According to Mutawakilu, speaking on ‘Hot Issues’, the contracts signed under the previous government between Ghana Water Limited and the security companies ended on March 31, 2025. He said he reminded the companies of the impending expiration and called for fresh applications. However, as of March 25, only one of the 17 security companies had visited him to express interest in continuing their services.

“We provide security to all our installations, so security companies enter into agreements with Ghana Water Limited for a year, which is subject to renewal or abrogation,” he said.

The GWL boss further stated that he extended the deadline for applications to 28 April 2025 and instructed the legal department to notify the companies of the extension.

“In fact, only one of the 17 security companies even visited me to introduce themselves, so I then extended it for another month to 28 April 2025. I even requested the legal department to write to them that I had extended the deadline, so I don’t see where I have abrogated,” Mutawakilu reiterated.

The MD further emphasized that new contracts have been issued to companies that met the requirements, including some existing ones that had previously provided security services.

The Managing Director stressed that there was no abrogation of contracts, as claimed by some, and that the process of renewing or awarding new contracts was conducted fairly. Ghana Water Limited has maintained its security arrangements, with both new and existing companies providing services to the organisation.
