The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has revealed new evidence of financial misconduct involving the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company, Abdul-Wahab Hannan.
The disclosure was made during the Government Accountability Series, an initiative launched by the Presidential Communications Directorate to inform the public about ongoing anti-corruption measures.
Dr. Ayine said investigators have uncovered a complex money laundering scheme involving suspicious transfers exceeding GHS 40.5 million through Sawtina Enterprise, a company alleged to be linked to the former CEO. He explained that the funds were transferred to several individuals and entities under questionable circumstances, suggesting a calculated attempt to conceal the origin and trail of illicit funds.
The Attorney General described the development as a clear instance of financial wrongdoing and abuse of office, emphasizing that the revelations reinforce government’s determination to recover stolen public funds and bring the culprits to justice.
Further investigations also revealed that the former CEO used the proceeds of crime to acquire several properties, including:
A five-bedroom house at Chain Homes worth $1,625,000.00
A three-bedroom house at Cantonments valued at $600,000.00
Plots of land at Airport Development estimated at $750,000.00
A 17-bedroom boutique hotel at Gumani in Tamale costing $250,000.00
A four-bedroom bungalow situated at Dworwulu, Accra valued at GHS 4,142,451.00
A 0.32-acre government land purchased at GHS 307,200.00
Dr. Ayine added that more details of the investigation will be released as the case advances through the necessary legal channels.
