The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has stressed that the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) is not solely interested in the purchase of gold but is also deeply committed to ensuring that the mineral is sourced responsibly.

Speaking at a ceremony in Accra, the Minister explained that GoldBod’s role goes beyond gold acquisition for national reserves and foreign exchange.

He said the Board has shown clear dedication to supporting responsible and sustainable mining practices that protect the environment and secure the future of mining communities.

Mr. Buah described the partnership with GoldBod as a testament to government’s broader agenda of balancing natural resource exploitation with environmental protection.

He noted that the Board has been actively collaborating with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources in initiatives aimed at reclaiming degraded lands, promoting corporate mining structures, and ensuring miners operate within legal and environmentally friendly frameworks.

“The Ghana Gold Board is not only into buying gold,” he emphasised. “They are equally committed to responsible and sustainable mining, and we are working together to ensure that small-scale mining is formalised and better regulated.”
