The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has officially opened applications for Jewellery and Fabrication Licences (Categories A, B, and C), as well as Refinery Licences, effective Tuesday, October 22, 2025.

According to a statement from the Board, the initiative aims to formalize the downstream gold value-addition sector, strengthen regulatory compliance, and promote sustainable industry growth under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).

GoldBod cautioned that only licensed persons are authorized to engage in gold trading, jewellery manufacturing, fabrication, and refining in Ghana. It also noted that all licences previously issued by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources are no longer valid under the new legal framework.

Existing operators in the sector have until December 31, 2025, to regularize their activities by acquiring new licences through the official GoldBod website — www.goldbod.gov.gh. Manual submissions will not be accepted.

The new categories include:

  • Category A for Ghanaian artisans and small-scale jewellers producing for local sale.
  • Category B for medium-sized Ghanaian companies producing for both local and export markets.
  • Category C for large-scale local and foreign jewellery manufacturers.
  • Refinery Licence for entities seeking to operate gold refineries in Ghana.

GoldBod encouraged applicants to review all eligibility requirements and fee schedules before submission.
