The Media Relations Officer of Goldbod, Prince Minkah, has cautioned all licensed gold buyers that failure to issue official Goldbod receipts for transactions could lead to the suspension or revocation of their licenses.
Speaking in an interview on the ‘GTV Breakfast Show‘, he said both small-scale miners and gold traders must insist on the issuance of Goldbod receipts in every transaction with a licensed buyer.
“The non-issuance of a Goldbod receipt constitutes a serious offense and may attract severe sanctions, including the suspension and revocation of licenses,” he stated.
He said, the receipt has now become a compulsory requirement for gold trading, serving as the only document that validates a transaction.
“We will be sending out the Goldbod Taskforce and field inspectors across the country, so all licensed buyers must make their receipt booklets available for inspection and cooperate with the team,” he added.
Mr. Minkah further urged licensed buyers without receipt booklets to immediately contact Goldbod on 0542325994 or 0256072012 to regularize their operations.
He emphasized that Goldbod is only exercising its regulatory mandate to promote transparency in gold trading.
Referring to remarks by the President, he noted that any taskforce operations will be sanctioned by the Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod, Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi, stressing that “if the CEO does not approve, the operation cannot proceed.”
Mr. Minkah concluded by calling on citizens to assist Goldbod in identifying and reporting any invalid transactions, describing such vigilance as an act of patriotism.
This enforcement drive follows a press statement released by Goldbod on Monday, announcing the beginning of strict monitoring of the use of Goldbod receipts by licensed buyers.
