The Acting Military Intelligence Officer at the 4 Infantry Battalion, 2nd Lieutenant Stanley Asamoah, says providing sustained security to GRIDCo will remain one of the priorities of the Ghana Armed Forces.

“Protecting personnel and critical national infrastructure such as the asset you manage is essential to the stability and security of the nation. We encourage all staff to uphold the highest safety standard and remain alert and keep safety as a collective responsibility that prevents incidences and enhance operational effectiveness”, the Ag. Military Intelligence Officer urged all stakeholders.

2nd Lieutenant Asamoah assured that the 4 Infantry Battalion is very much ready to assist the civilian authority to maintain law and order across their area of responsibility.

The nature of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo)’s operations, as Ghana’s power transmission entity, including management of the country’s power system, makes it highly prone to injuries and even deaths.

The annual Corporate Safety Awards scheme is one of the pragmatic strategies the company has adopted to motivate its employees and stakeholders to adhere to safety protocols across its operational areas.

The durbar in Kumasi, as the climax of this year’s month-long Corporate Safety Month, was to formally recognize and appreciate individual employees, departments, groups, and partners who have been outstanding in complying with workplace safety regulations.

Some individual staff members and departments received prizes for their performances in the Safety Awareness Activities.

Samuel Anim Danso of the Akosombo Area won the Fire Fighting category, while Ebenezer Ofori of Bolga took home the Housekeeping prize. David Ashitey, Stephen Amoah and Joseph Enin were named as the GRIDCo 2025 Safety Champions.

Nelson Adade of the Kumasi Area emerged as the winner of the Safety Quiz, beating Akua Oppong of Engineering to second position, with David Dadson placing third.

AngloGold Ashanti was awarded a special prize as GRIDCo’s best collaborator, while an engineer of the mine, Kisman Eghan, received the GRIDCo CEO’s Special Award for his selfless and exceptional role in the maintenance of the Obuasi East Substation, and subsequent restoration of power supply to Obuasi and its environs following a fire outbreak and explosion at the substation in May this year.

In the Work Area Safety Committee Awards (WASACO), the highest awards, the Techiman Area was adjudged the winner in the Operational category, with the Lands Management Department winning the Non-Operational category.

All the award winners received prizes including trophies, citations, and plaques.

The Deputy Chief Executive of GRIDCo in charge of Engineering and Operations, Frank Asirifi Otchere, said despite GRIDCo not recording any major workplace injury so far this year, the company is pursuing improved safety regulations to further enhance its international recognition and status.

“I can confidently say that, in the energy space GRIDCo is seen as a critical and a very important institution and we want to continue that line. But we can’t do so without a safety record and so we need to pay attention to that”, he urged the internal stakeholders.

The Deputy CEO emphasized the need for the company to adapt to the advancement of technology in improving safety at the premises of the company across the country.

The Officer Commanding the Kumasi Metro Fire Station, DO 2 Thomas Asiedu, urged organizations to adopt technology and innovations to advance workplace safety.

“Today, technology has moved from being supportive to become a central pillar of occupational safety. Innovations such as digital monitoring systems, smart censors, data analysis and automated emergency alert are transforming the way we prevent and detect our cause of fires”, he noted.

This year’s GRIDCo Corporate Awareness celebration was on the theme: “Embracing Technology and AI to Enhance Safety and Efficiency.”
