Management of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has officially withdrawn its recognition of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (ICAG), following reports that the institution’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Eric Oduro Osae, was inaccurately presented as holding a doctorate in Political Economy.

The withdrawal of recognition was contained in a statement issued on Thursday, January 8, 2026.

GTEC, in its statement, referenced an earlier directive dated October 13, 2025, instructing ICAG to cease the use of the title “Dr.” and remove it from all official records.

The statement emphasised that despite the earlier directive to ICAG to cease the use of the title “Dr.” and remove the same from all official records, a recent news profile described the CEO with a doctorate title, prompting the Commission to act.

The Commission described the inclusion of the doctorate claim as misleading, noting that it adversely affects the credibility and integrity of ICAG.

As a result, all certificates issued by the Institute from January 8, 2026, onward will be considered unrecognised by GTEC.

GTEC highlighted that the decision is reversible, provided that corrective measures are taken by ICAG and its CEO to address the serious quality assurance breach.

The Director of Corporate Affairs has been tasked to add ICAG to the list of unrecognised institutions to inform the public.
