The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA), in collaboration with LCB Worldwide Ghana, a crisis management solutions company, has carried out a fumigation exercise in the central business area of Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital.
The exercise forms part of LCB Worldwide Ghana’s corporate social responsibility and community support initiatives and targeted lorry parks, offices, drains and major market centres. Hundreds of shops across the Koforidua township were fumigated.
Fumigation teams sprayed and disinfected key trading areas to help control disease-causing pests and reduce public health risks.

Speaking to GBC News, a Procurement Officer at LCB Worldwide Ghana, Edem Yaw King, said the initiative was aimed at protecting traders and residents, noting that market centres remain vulnerable due to congestion and sanitation challenges. He added that the exercise aligns with broader efforts to promote disease prevention and improve hygiene standards in commercial areas.
“At LCB Worldwide Ghana Limited, we are committed to helping rid our markets of bacteria and disease-causing pests that pose serious public health risks. This fumigation exercise is part of our effort to create safer, cleaner trading environments and prevent the spread of communicable diseases within our markets and business centres,” he said.
The First National Vice President of GUTA, Joseph Paddy, expressed optimism that the exercise would contribute to a healthier and more conducive business environment. He commended LCB Worldwide Ghana for the intervention and urged traders to complement such efforts by maintaining clean surroundings.

“Traders spend more time in market places than in their homes, so it is important for our markets to be clean. We encourage all GUTA members to keep their surroundings clean, as this will have a positive impact on their health and lead to the growth of their businesses,” he said.
The Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben South, Ransford Owusu Boakye, also welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that supports the Assembly’s sanitation and public health drive.
“We are grateful to GUTA and LCB Worldwide Ghana for bringing this exercise to the municipality. We hope it can be sustained and, if possible, replicated on a quarterly basis,” he said.

He appealed to traders and residents to adopt responsible waste management practices to sustain the gains made.
Traders present during the exercise welcomed the intervention and called for it to be sustained, stressing that regular fumigation and improved sanitation are critical to safeguarding public health in the regional capital.
From Koforidua, the fumigation team is expected to move to the Volta Region for a similar exercise.
