Former presidential spokesperson and politician, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of eight Ghanaians in last week’s helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Adansi in the Ashanti Region.

Speaking on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, he said the tragedy had left him personally touched, especially after seeing the coffins of the victims draped in the national flag. He noted that the images brought back painful memories from his own past.

Mr Agyepong said the incident was a reminder of how fragile life is, stressing that people can leave home for work and never return. He described the past weeks as a “dark period” for the nation, citing the loss of the Asantehemaa, music legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, and now the helicopter disaster that claimed the lives of senior officials and military personnel.

He also reflected on his close ties with the Air Force during his years in public service, saying the crash had given him an even greater appreciation for life and the need for humility.

Mr Agyepong urged Ghanaians, especially politicians, to use this moment of national mourning to reduce divisiveness, think about the welfare of others, and make service to the public the true focus of governance.

The tragic incident occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, resulting in the sudden death of Defence Minister Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah; Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Alhaji Murtala Mohammed; Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed; NDC Vice Chairman, Dr Samuel Sarpong; former parliamentary candidate, Mr Samuel Aboagye; Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala; pilot Flying Officer Twum Ampadu; and Sergeant Ernest Addo.
