The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, has responded to a recent press statement from DStv Ghana dated August 3,2025, saying he remains committed to meaningful dialogue but only if it focuses on reducing subscription fees for Ghanaians.‎

‎DStv had earlier described the Minister’s call for a fee reduction as “not tenable.” In reply, Mr. George said the company’s position only proves his earlier point that DStv does not take the concerns of the Ghanaian people seriously.‎

‎In a Facebook post on Sunday August 3, 2025, he cited the example of Nigeria, where the same company reversed a price increase after the authorities took legal action and the Nigerian Parliament ordered a suspension. DStv complied in that case, he said, questioning why the company refuses to do the same in Ghana.‎

‎Mr. George pointed out that in April this year, at a time when the cedi had appreciated by about 10%, inflation had dropped by over 5%, and fuel prices had gone down, DStv still increased its prices by 15%.‎

‎He also revealed that DStv had made him an alternate offer to keep the current high fees but stop transferring the revenue to their headquarters. He said he rejected the offer because it made no sense and failed to address the core issue of unfair pricing.‎

‎“For far too long, corporations have taken advantage of Ghanaians,” Mr. George said, adding that this was the time for a reset one that protects the interest of the people.‎

‎He expressed sympathy for DStv’s Ghanaian employees but called on them to support efforts to ensure fair treatment for all Ghanaians.‎

‎The Minister ended by stating clearly that he remains open to discussions but only those that focus on reducing prices. “Anything else,” he stressed, “is tangential and of no consequence.”
